This is an in person event at the Deer Park Library, 4020 E Galbraith Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236

Join us for a day of learning…

Join us for a day of learning around the values, examples, and lessons of Citizen Advocacy, a practice that connects people in surprising ways.  We will welcome Tom Kohler, of Savannah, Georgia, who brings over 40 years of experience in Citizen Advocacy, to help us consider ways we might connect more deeply with people around us.

More About Tom, Presenter & Facilitator of Learning

Tom Kohler is a ‘born and stayed’ Savannahian having lived in Savannah for 70 of his 72 years. During a 40 year career as coordinator of Chatham Savannah Citizen Advocacy Tom invited thousands of people to have a cup of coffee and consider becoming a citizen advocate on behalf of someone living on ’thin ice’ because of a pattern of segregation that often surrounds people who have a disability. Hundreds accepted and many were involved for decades. He and Susan Earl co-authored  the award winning book Waddie Welcome and the Beloved Community. Tom has also been involved in creating a variety of civic organizations over the years including the Jim Collins Bar Alumni Association, Emergent Savannah, and Savannah Rocks!  In retirement he serves on the Board of the Forsyth Farmers Market, works hard in his yard, and continues to drink coffee and connect people for mutual benefit. He is the father of 2 capable adult daughters.

This day is for Citizens, Neighbors, Families, Practitioners in social services and community building efforts who want to…

  • Understand Citizen Advocacy values, the power of relationship building and applying their learning to their personal or professional role.

  • Hear stories and examples of people partnering in local ways that help bridge diversity barriers that keep us disconnected.

  • Discover strategies for creating more connected communities and bringing people together across social differences.
