Community Design Session

  • Starfire 5030 Oaklawn Drive Cincinnati, OH, 45227 USA (map)

Monthly Community Design Sessions offer a forum for families, people with disabilities and community members to join together to help one another design and grow good lives and good communities.

It is a space for local people to connect with each other in small groups to talk about what they are working on to build inclusion and resources, brainstorm ways to overcome obstacles they face, build on successes, and take the next step.

Community Design Sessions nurture the leadership of local people with disabilities, their families, and neighbors while strengthening connections with others who live in the community.

These one-hour Conversations are open to anyone and designed around the tenets and principles of asset-based community development.

Community Conversations reflect the tenets of asset-based community development and relationship-building and intentionally designed for growing leaders of the Ohio Family Network (OFN).

Each Community Conversation follows a simple structure:
1. Collective Learning: Small design groups are formed and each person and/or family spends five minutes to describe where they are in their “project” or journey. The small design group dedicates the next 5 minutes to design with them – address challenges / obstacles, think of new ideas for breakthroughs, etc.
2. Wrap Up: Commitment/Affirmation/Action
